These bills reflect my commitment to protecting kids, supporting families, and expanding opportunity. HB 0273 addresses classroom technology and helps ensure screens are used thoughtfully in schools, while HB 0289 strengthens protections against child sexual abuse material. HB 0329 supports state employees and families through maternity and parental leave improvements. HB 0393 strengthens early intervention for students with dyslexia, helping children get the support they need to become successful readers. Together with legislation addressing housing, education, technology, and family support, these efforts are about building a Utah where children can thrive, parents have greater support, and families have more opportunities to succeed.

During the 2025 session, I focused on finding the right balance between protecting Utahns and keeping government from standing in the way of innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth. I worked to advance balanced AI regulation that recognizes the opportunities of emerging technology while protecting people from legitimate harms, particularly when it comes to child sexual abuse material and online exploitation. I also championed practical reforms that help small businesses and professionals succeed, removing unnecessary regulatory barriers where deregulation makes sense while maintaining appropriate standards for safety and accountability. From modernizing vehicle registration and professional practice rules to improving motorcycle safety, beekeeping, veterinary services, and criminal statutes, these bills reflect a common-sense approach: regulate where regulation protects people, and get government out of the way where it doesn't.

My work in the Legislature builds on a career dedicated to protecting children and families, and that passion has only grown as I’ve worked on these issues. In 2024, I focused on traffic safety and supporting law enforcement, while also confronting emerging threats created by technology. My legislation strengthened driver education and motor vehicle safety and addressed accountability for those entrusted with serving our communities. I also worked to protect children from the misuse of artificial intelligence, including the creation and distribution of artificial pornographic images. As AI continues to transform our society, we must make sure our laws keep pace—protecting children and families while preserving innovation and individual rights. These efforts reflect my commitment to practical, thoughtful policy that puts public safety, children, and families first.
What's Next
This year, I will continue building on the work I’ve done in artificial intelligence, including examining liability and accountability for agentic AI while further strengthening our laws to protect children from child sexual abuse material. I will also remain focused on education and early literacy as we work together as a state to address the fundamentals of reading and ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed. Supporting Utah families will remain a priority, with a particular emphasis on family-friendly policies and women’s health. I look forward to another productive year of thoughtful, commonsense policymaking—working to make a meaningful difference today while helping ensure a bright future for Utahns.
